The Czech ace was born in the small town of Bílovec on the 8th of March 1990 and competed part in her first WTA tournament in 2007, within a year she was ranked among the world’s top 50.
In she won her first title by claiming the 2009 Hobart crown and in 2010 reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon, where she finally lost out to Serena Williams.
However, it was the following year where her career really took off. At the beginning of 2011 she won two tournaments, in Brisbane and Paris, and surprised everyone in May by lifting the Madrid Masters trophy having seen off Vera Zvonareva, Na Li and Victoria Azarenka.
She followed it up with a quarter-final appearance at the 2011 French Open, then notched her first Grand Slam title by beating Maria Sharapova in the 2012 Wimbledon final.
