The American ace started her career on the 2007 ITF Circuit in Brazil and in 2008 played her first WTA qualifying at Miami and at the US Open.
She fell in WTA qualifying events three times, including again at the US Open, but in 2010 competed in three WTA main draws for the first time but for a third time on the bounce failed to each the opening round of the US Open.
Stephens cracked the world’s top 100 in 2011, rising to world no89 after a 3rd Round exit at the US Open, and aged 18 finished as the youngest player in the end-of-season world’s top 100 despite missing a couple of tournament with a left wrist injury.
She made her top 50 debut in 2012, as world no49, following impressive runs to the 4th Round at the French Open and the 3rd Round at Wimbledon.
